Anna Gawboy

Anna Gawboy is Associate Professor of Music Theory at The Ohio State University. She is currently working on a book that examines the relationship between esotericism and musical modernism across the long twentieth century. A chapter-length sketch of this project appears in the newly-published A Cultural History of Western Music in the Modern Age edited by William Cheng and Danielle Fosler-Lussier. Anna also specializes in the concert performance of responsive visuals with music. She has collaborated with the lighting designer Justin Townsend to reconstruct the part for colored light in Scriabin’s Prometheus, Poem of Fire, op. 60, five times, most recently for the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
